Dexter Wansel - Life on Mars

Thanks to Bill for alerting me to this masterpiece. Isn’t it just lovely?

A break in the clouds

I’ve never been sure to believe that things happen for a reason or not but for once I’d like to definitely think this did. This isn’t something most people will care about but I’m mainly saying this for the benefit of telling my friends… It’s just one of those very unexpected moments which made me happy.

Saturday morning, I’m laying in bed listening to what has now been my ‘comfort blanket’ radio show for the last 5 years or so, Late Junction presented by Verity Sharp on BBC Radio 3. I’m reading a book to try and cover up my incessant thoughts of whether to give up making music completely, how I’ve let people down recently and generally whether today was a good day to get out of bed. When suddenly (and I assure you I had no idea) this happened..

Maybe I’ll just get on with making some more music. Who knows, maybe one day I could make someone feel proud to know me.

An interesting point - Martyn Ware

“There aren’t so many people sitting there, listening and concentrating and paying attention to sound anymore…. We have to regard sound as a way of enhancing an overall experience now and acknowledge that, and take it as a positive thing and actually try and build on that as an idea.”
